How to create a character

Players tell stories through the words, thoughts, feelings, and actions of characters. Before you can chat or emote, you must have a character selected.

When you first join a story

When you first join a session of a story, the Create a character console will appear. If no characters have been created yet, you must create a character to continue. Otherwise you can join the session without creating a character by pressing Escape or clicking Close .

  1. Enter your new character’s name and pronoun.

  2. Optionally, choose for this character to be your perspective character. If you do, this character will appear as “you” in the story that you read. This option is checked by default when you first join a session.

  3. Press Enter or click Enter when you’re finished.

Create additional characters

Any time during a session, you can create additional characters. The characters you create can be used by you and any other players.

  1. Open the Emote As drawer.

Click the name of your currently selected character under the input line. If you don’t have a character selected, click Select a character.

You can use the Emote As drawer to select any character to emote and chat as; as well as to create additional characters. You can close the drawer without doing anything by pressing Escape or clicking Close .

  2. Click Create a character.

The Create a character console will appear. You can close the console without creating a character by pressing Escape or clicking Close .

  3. Enter your new character’s name and pronoun.

Press Enter or click Enter when you’re finished.

After you create your character, it will be selected for you to emote and chat as right away. Any emotes and chats you enter will appear to come from your new character.
